The mother of Bernal Yáñez de Moscoso, with whom she participated in the revolt against Archbishop Rodrigo de Luna and, probably in the later capture and captivity of Alonso de Fonseca n Vimianzo, his successor in the archbishopric of Santiago. This episode is closely linked to the outbreak of the Great Irmandiño War.
Xoana was from a noble family and with family ties with the crown of Castile and the Catalonian-Aragonese Crown. Married to Rodrigo de Moscoso e Limia, the lord of Altamira and Monterrei, she shared with him the task of organising and consolidating a lineage that would play a prominent role in the 15th century. She was a relevant and influential female figure in the Galician Late Middle Ages.
