Archaeological excavations

They culminate in 2013 with the archaeological project for the study, recovery and appreciation of Rocha Forte.

It would not be until the 21st century that the abandonment of A Rocha Forte was reversed. The neighbour’s association urged the institutions to start the recovery and appreciation of the ruins of the castle.

The first step was the publishing of a remarkable book by a team of medievalists of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). This was followed by the successive campaigns of archaeological excavation from 2002, thanks to an agreement reached by USC, the City Council and the City Consortium.

Now, at this new stage which began in 2013, science, the institutions and the local community have managed to turn this absent landscape of A Rocha Forte into a presence in the service of those who wish to known their past.
