Enter the castle

Located between Santiago and O Milladoiro, the castle was a militar stronghold and the residence of the archbishop of Compostela.

Erected in the 13th century by the archbishop Xoán Arias, the castle was reinforced many decades later by the also archbishop Berenguel de Landoira

Few internal structures remain from the castle, as the building was destroyed by the Irmandiño rebellion down to the ground

The keep was brought down in the 14th century and so was the chapel of Saint Euphemia, whose location remains a mystery. , whose definitive location remains a mystery.

The castle was surrounded by at least two stone walls. The outer wall defended the fortress against the new weapons of war.

Destroyed and plundered, the castle of Rocha Forte plunged into oblivion for a long time. Until today.
